BURLINGTON — A benefit golf tournament and fund-raiser for former Assistant Town Administrator Anthony Troiano is scheduled for early October in Connecticut, according to Selectmen Chairman Albert Fay, who said he spoke with Troiano's sister.

Fay, in a telephone interview, said the tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, Conn.

There will be raffle tickets sold for the event, Fay said, adding that those interested in purchasing tickets can call him at 781-272-2516.

Fay reported that Claire Troiano said her brother is steadily recovering from multiple severe injuries he suffered in a fatal, two-vehicle crash May 15 in Bourne.

Lilija Berents, the driver of the other vehicle, was killed in the accident.

An East Sandwich resident and Hopkintown town manager, Anthony Troiano, 51, has been charged criminally in the accident with motor-vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

He also faces the following civil charges: a marked lanes violation, failure to pass safely, and speeding.

Following the accident, Troiano spent time in the Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center in Providence. Since then, Fay said, Troiano has gone through therapy, "and has responded well to it."

"I was also told he his also back working, two part-time days a week," Fay said.

According to Fay, Claire said, "The past few months have been long and hard, with many ups-and-downs. But, Tony has worked hard and maintained a positive attitude."

Fay added that Claire told him Troiano has also been buoyed by the strong support of family and friends.

Troiano served in Burlington from September 2004 through December 2006.
