Republican candidate Brion Cangiamila will be write-in
By STAFF REPORTS news@woburnonline.com

BILLERICA - Add the name of Brion Cangiamila to the political mix locally for the Tuesday, Nov. 4 election.

Cangiamila is no stranger to running for the post and was defeated in a special election in December 2007 to replace Sen. Robert Havern, D-Arlington, who had resigned earlier.

He will have to await the outcome of the Democratic Primary to see who the Democrat will be this time.

In making the announcement over the weekend, Cangiamila reason that "after running a successful campaign in 3 of the 5 towns in the Special Election in December, and seeing the turmoil and lack of leadership on Beacon Hill, we decided to launch a write-in campaign for the Republican nomination on September 16th. Without a Republican candidate on September 16, voters in the 4th Middlesex District will have no choice come November."

Cangiamila was beaten by Rep. James Marzilli, D-Arlington, who announced after several criminal charges of accosting women were filed against him that he would not be a candidate in November.

"Clearly, with rising cost of fuel at the gas pumps and to heat your home, people in the Commonwealth are stretched to the limit. Despite numerous attempts to offer taxpayers a break from the gas tax and a tax credit to help heat your home, the Democratic Party on Beacon Hill has decided to deny both ideas and increase spending by $1.2 billion instead."

The Senate district includes Burlington and Woburn (minus Ward 2) among the towns in the district.

"Beacon Hill just (does) not seem to have their priorities straight. The taxpayers of our great state never seem to be of concern to the overwhelming one-party legislature. Rather than dealing with the fiscal crisis we are facing, helping people deal with the realities of a recession or protecting children from child rapist with a mandatory 10-year sentence, the Democratically controlled Beacon Hill debates regulating ATVs, repealing the 1913 Marriage Law and override $125 million dollars in special interest spending by the governor so Santa has a train to ride in December. We deserve better."

Other communities served by the 4th Middlesex District Senatorial District are his hometown, Billerica, along with Arlington and Lexington (precincts 1,2, 4-7).

His signs have already been seen in Burlington and in Woburn.

Cangiamila, for example, took Burlington 689-464. Cangiamila also took Woburn over Marzilli 749-582. Overall, Marzilli won out 6,276 to 3,812. Thomas Fallon Burlington of the Constitution Party was third with 369.

In concluding his announcement, Cangiamila added:

"There are many problems which face the Commonwealth and honest and decisive leadership is needed to address the difficult fiscal decisions which lay ahead. More government spending is not the solution nor is raising taxes. Without immediate action, people of Massachusetts will be facing huge tax increases to balance the budget.

"Beacon Hill suffers from a one-party monopoly. People of the 4th Middlesex District can take the first step by nominating Brion Cangiamila, Sylvan Road in Billerica under the Senator of the General Court on Tuesday, September 16th. For the people of the 4th Middlesex District it's a matter of choice."
