Fire damages Hillside storage areas news@woburnonline.com WOBURN - Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze that erupted at a Main Street florist early this morning, but not before two vacant storage buildings were completely consumed by the flames. According to Woburn Fire Chief Paul Tortolano, dispatchers received a call at 1:30 a.m. this morning about a fire that had flared-up at the Hillside Florist site at 888 Main St.. No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, although Tortolano confirmed that local officials have so far ruled out arson or other criminal activity as the source of the fire. "The investigation is currently still underway, although we have no reason at this time to believe that it was any kind of act of arson," the fire chief said in an interview this morning. Responding firefighters, led by Fire Capt. David Gay, were quickly able to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to two greenhouse-style buildings at the rear of the property. Both of the structures, which were vacant and mainly used for the storage of seasonal materials associated with the florist shop, were a total loss, according to Tortolano. "Both buildings were totally destroyed and the fire did cause some peripheral damage to the main building at Hillside," said Tortolano, explaining that some vinyl windows and siding had melted.
