Bone Marrow/Blood Drive on Thursday news@woburnonline.com To the editor: On Thursday, November 20, the Malcolm White School on Bow Street will be hosting a Bone Marrow/Blood Drive in honor of two Woburn children who are both courageously battling cancer, namely, Bridget Sweeney and Ethan Hickey. Both of these children are in need of a stem cell transplant. Hopefully, Bridget will be well enough very soon to undergo surgery using her own cells but Ethan is still in dire need of a donor. At this point in time, there is no match for him in the National Donor Registry. If a person is interested in becoming a donor and a possible match for Ethan, please stop by the Malcolm White School on Thursday between 2-7 p.m. The initial test consists of cheek swabs and only takes a few minutes. If a person wants to participate but cannot make the drive on Thursday, they are urged to call Dana Farber at 1-866-875-3324 as soon as possible. Please call 1.800.Give Life if one is interested in making an appointment to donate blood. Donors do not need an appointment for the bone marrow testing; they can do that while you are there. Monetary donations will also be accepted. They can be dropped off on the day of the drive or mailed to: "The Bridget Sweeney Fund" and/or "The Ethan Hickey Fund" c/o Debi Tierno Malcolm White Elementary School 36 Bow Street Woburn, MA 01801 For any questions or to volunteer, please call Debi Tierno at 781-953-4897 or email debitierno@comcast.net. Thanks in advance for your support.
