Baby's sudden death probed
news@woburnonline.com

WINCHESTER — An infant's death which has been under investigation since it was reported on Wednesday is believed to be a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Further investigation, however, has forced the daycare center where the child died to suspend its practice.

According to police reports, the child was 11 months old and was left in the care of a licensed day care center on New Meadows Road. The mother, a Lynnfield resident, collected the child at about 1:50 p.m., took her to her car, but raced back to the house to call 911 since the baby was reportedly not breathing.

According to Det. Paul DeLuca, there is no evidence of any wrong-doing connected with the death of the child. Police reportedly toured the house on Wednesday and observed no problems with the other children.

The medical examiner's preliminary finding is SIDS, DeLuca said. However, the Department of Early Education and Care is doing an obligatory investigation of the center, during which its operation is suspended.

Officer Robert Delaney reported.
