Burlington Police rule out account of gunshots By STEVE DeMARCO news@woburnonline.com BURLINGTON While the incident remains under investigation, police said it is unlikely shots were fired during the pursuit of a car-break suspect on the Burlington High School grounds Tuesday afternoon. The suspect eluded police after a massive search. "We now have reason to believe that the 'gunshot' noise heard (Tuesday) at the high school was more likely the sound of a transformer explosion near the Mt. Hope school," said Police Chief Fran Hart, in an e-mail to the Daily Times Chronicle. "NSTAR has confirmed that this took place at about the same time as the high school incident." Hart went on to add that "we are still attempting to get usable images from the parking lot cameras." Tuesday, when police determined a shot or shots could have been fired, they ordered Code Blue lock downs at Burlington High School and the Francis Wyman School. The lock downs were lifted around 4 p.m., and students were dismissed.
