Wells Pharmacy robbed at gunpoint

WOBURN - A man armed with a gun stole a large quantity of prescription medication from Wells Pharmacy in Central Square, during a brazen daylight robbery on Wednesday morning.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, 5-10, 200 pounds, with "reddish" hair, brown eyes and a "round face." He was wearing an engineer's cap and a long, black trench coat.

According to police reports, the suspect walked into the drug store and handed a note to a clerk, demanding drugs. The clerk handed the note to a pharmacist.

The suspect then ordered the clerk who was given the note and another employee to turn and face a wall, while the pharmacist retrieved five bottles of prescription pills containing about 400 tablets and then handed them over to the suspect.

In his haste to leave, the suspect reportedly dropped one of the bottles on the floor. A female witness reported the suspect fled on foot, south on Main Street.

Another witness said he saw the suspect get into a waiting motor vehicle, which fled south on Main Street.

The clerk who was handed the note told police the suspect had a handgun with a wooden handle.

The incident was logged by police at 9:55 a.m. on Wednesday.
