Parking proposal is withdrawn

WOBURN - Winchester Hospital officials withdrew a proposal last night to build a satellite parking lot along Rainin Road nearby Spud's Restaurant and the Best Western Hotel.

During Tuesday night's City Council meeting, Murtha Cullina attorney Frank DiLuna, representing College Street Partners, sought permission to withdraw the parking lot proposal without prejudice.

The petitioners had pitched a plan to situate a 300-car facility at the East Woburn parcel. The applicants also wanted to provide shuttle service to and from the hospital.

"We made a decision late today to request a withdrawal without prejudice," said DiLuna. "It's unknown at this time if it will be back."

Last night's withdrawal, granted unanimously by the City Council, marks the second time in a month that Winchester Hospital has shelved the Rainin Road parking lot proposal.

Rainin Road, also known as Mack Road, is located in East Woburn off Montvale Avenue, near Route 93 in the area of Spud's Restaurant.

Last month, College Street Partners pulled an initial special permit request to create a lot for 600 vehicles at the site.
