news@woburnonline.com

WOBURN - Escaping with an undetermined amount of cash, a man claiming to be armed robbed a Woburn Center bank on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, described only as a white male in police reports, calmly exited the Salem Five Bank on Saturday at 12:44 with his stolen loot, and was last seen heading on foot toward Everett Street.

According to police reports, an off-duty cop from neighboring Winchester observed a man matching the suspect's description getting into a small red car on Everett Street shortly after the bank heist.

In yet another lead, police also interviewed a Blockbuster Video store employee, who spotted a man sitting in a blue Chevy in front of the business in the minutes before the robbery occurred.

Bank officials, including the teller who handed over the cash, claim that the man walked up to the window, passed a note that claimed he was armed with a gun, and demanded that the money be handed over.

The incident remains under investigation.
